Tears = Winning!

BGOBGAI! Quickie:

cry

There I was sitting with my family watching yet another cooking “reality” show and it suddenly hit me. How come it’s always the people who start to cry during a competition that always seem to win? I mean, I’ve heard of flopping in basketball and soccer, but what is this all about with crying in cooking reality shows?

I forget which show I saw the most recently as they are all basically the same. Some stuck up guy or girl stands up and introduces three or four people who are going to cook esoteric dishes that are too small and probably uses some snobby phrase like “yam-infused (yuck!) duckling sauce with capers quartered and blanched tomatoes with an orange peel garnish.” We are then introduced to further stuck up foodies that comment on everything about a single bite of food.

Finally, and wouldn’t you know it, one of the contestants starts to cry about something that happened in their lives and, Boom!, they end up winning. Almost ALWAYS! So what now, are raw onions being cut going to be considered performance enhancers?

What do you think? Why are these type of shows even being broadcast anymore? It’s almost as predictable as a video containing a baby ALWAYS winning America’s Funniest Home Videos. Why continue showing them?

Greetings blog wanderers and seekers of truth, or whatever truth appears to be from the mind of a warped individual. You have reached the inner sanctum of some guy named Alan. Having graduated college sometime shortly after the Earth cooled, he finds himself in his late 30's and working out in the real world. His humor is dry and his outlook not so serious and somehow has picked up the nasty habit of writing about himself in the third person. He is married with child and loves his family, sports and, of course, his beloved video games...likelihood of his growing up? Not good. Are you an established site or magazine looking for a writer? Drop me a line if you are interested.
